Specialty Coffee Industry Update
The specialty
coffee industry is continuing to grow at a very rapid pace. There are so many people around the world that are literally addicted to
coffee that this comes as no surprise! When it comes to metropolitan areas, you can find
gourmet coffee shops on nearly every street corner. This is one of the fastest growing food industries out there, and coffee is being exported from many different countries throughout the world.
There are so many different types of specialty coffee that you could never grow bored of your options. There are even special drinks that are perfect for the hot weather, such as iced coffee and blended coffee drinks. Sales for this type of coffee drink have been steadily increasing over the last several years. These drinks offer coffee lovers a way to enjoy their favorite drink all throughout the year! As a matter of fact, cold coffee drinks remain popular even during the cold months. Either way, this type of coffee drink brings even more variety to the specialty coffee industry, since there are even more choices when it comes to flavors and combinations.
You can't talk about gourmet coffee without bringing up espresso. This type of coffee is the base for a wide selection of gourmet coffee drinks. Even those who prefer regular coffee will sometimes enjoy a good latte or cappuccino every once in awhile! If you order a latte, you will get espresso and steamed milk with very little to no foam at all. If you like the foam, you could order a cappuccino which is the same thing as a latte, only with a layer of thick foamy milk at the top. Mocha is another popular drink, which is espresso, steamed milk and chocolate. Many people prefer to top their mocha with a layer of whipped cream! You can vary the strength of these drinks by using additional shots of espresso. Generally, a medium sized espresso drink would take two espresso shots. If you require additional caffeine, you could have your drink with three or even four shots! Gourmet coffee drinks can be highly personalized, which is part of the reason why people are so drawn to them.
There are many different quality roasts that you can enjoy, as there are so many countries that produce fine coffee. The difference in all of the roasts has a lot to do with the location that they come from and the conditions in which the coffee was grown. If you are really into this type of coffee, you may want to start brewing it in your home. In this case, you would want to invest in a quality machine for brewing your coffee.
When you purchase quality coffee beans, you should always be sure that you use it within a couple weeks. This way you can make sure that you are getting a truly fresh cup of coffee and that the beans have not gone stale.
The specialty coffee industry is going to continue to grow, and there will always be top quality coffee for us to enjoy from all around the world!

Coffee, Can the average person taste the difference?
Can the average person taste the difference of a high end cup of coffee. I am going to rule out McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts and refer to the more exotic blends from your Starbucks and Caribou's and other Specialty Coffee Shops. Can a person discern between Sumatran and Columbian, Kona and Ethiopian, or is good coffee just that, good coffee? I realize there are "super tasters" and "coffee snobs", but I am refering to the average "Joe" so to speak, can they really tell the difference? Cheers!
