Sumatra Coffee Origins

Sumatra coffee is extremely popular now. As a matter of fact, it is offered by nearly every popular coffee brand out there. If you are an avid coffee fan, you are sure to love a good cup of Sumatra. The beans that are typically used to produce this kind of coffee tend to be some of the best tasting beans available. You will find that this coffee is very smooth and full bodied with its own unique aroma.

This kind of coffee comes in a wide variety of different flavors, and they will all differ in taste according to the specific area in which they were cultivated. Some blends are very light with a slight hint of fruitiness, while others will be deeper and richer in taste.

There are farmers all throughout this particular region of Indonesia that make a living from producing these beans, and the flavor is always going to differ depending upon the climate and conditions at the time in which it was grown. There are also going to be different flavors depending upon how the beans were processed. The beans will either be wet processed or dry processed.

When it comes to dry processing, the farmers begin by picking the beans and taking off the skins. They will then get fermented overnight. After that, the farmers will hand wash all of the beans and then lay them out to dry naturally in the sun. The beans that have a more Earthy taste will be the ones that were dried out right on the ground. The way that the beans are dried will actually have a lot to do with the slight differences in the way that the various blends will taste.

Even though most Sumatra coffee beans are processed dry, there are still some that are wet processed. This is when the beans get dried only part of the way after they have been picked. Through this process the extra layers that encase the bean are actually removed, so the coffee ends up having an even brighter taste.

If the beans are allowed to dry all the way before the outside layers are taken off, it will result in the absolute most pure form of coffee from Sumatra. This is because of the fact that when a person drinks it, they will only taste the flavor that comes directly from the bean. There won't be any additional flavor added from the drying process occurring on the outside. However, it is mostly about personal preference when it comes to coffee, and it really just depends upon your own personal taste.

One thing that you should keep in mind is that the price of the coffee will not necessarily determine its quality, so be sure to choose carefully. Most coffee connoisseurs will love this kind of coffee because of the fact that it has a low acidity and a nice smooth taste.

You will surely be able to find Sumatra coffee among the selection that your favorite specialty store has to offer, and if you haven't tried it already you most definitely should!
